Dr. Craine was a colleague of my father's at Hess & Clark during the 1960's, and his son Jeff was a classmate of mine at Ashland Junior High School. Jeff's death in 1967 was the first time I'd experienced the loss of a friend, and at 13 years old, was something I wasn't sure I'd ever get over. I could only imagine the suffering of his father, mother and little brother, Andy.
Our family moved to New Jersey in 1969, and our contact with the Craines was limited to Christmas cards until the mid-1980's, when I had the opportunity to visit during a business trip to Ohio. I would visit several times during the following years, and brought my son by to meet them on one occasion. During one visit following Mrs. Craine's passing, I had the opportunity to learn about Dr. Craine's military service in Europe during World War II, and was awed by his experience, and his ability move past it. He was an extraordinary man- A soldier, scientist, and proud father.
It has been a pleasure and an honor to know him. Condolences to Andy and All that will miss him-
