Obituary for Paul E. Imhoff

Paul E. Imhoff
Paul E. Imhoff, 87

Paul E. Imhoff, 87, of Ashland passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2016 at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.

He was born June 2, 1928 to Frank and Ruby (nee Smith) Imhoff in Ashland.

When he was 4 years old, they moved to Crum Road in Richland County. He attended school at Adario and graduated from Savannah High School in 1946.

While in high school, he helped neighbors bale hay and with other farm work. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp, having served 3 years. Paul was honorably discharged in October of 1949 as a Sergeant.

Paul married the former Joyce Kline on September 8, 1948. After his discharge from the military, he worked at the Ashland County Farm Bureau driving a feed truck and later fuel oil. He became a partner in the Cottage St. Hardware where he did plumbing. After selling his share of the hardware store, he joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 42. He first worked for Scott Plumbing and for several other companies in the Mansfield area, but mainly for the Charles Hoffman Company. Paul retired from Guenther Plumbing and Heating in 1993.

He enjoyed all kinds of sports. He was an avid Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians fan. Paul loved playing golf and had a hole in one at the Glenwood Golf Course and another at Mohican Hills. Paul was a volunteer with the Junior Golf Program at Brookside Golf Course for many years. He also very much enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. As a lifelong member of Savannah United Methodist Church, he served on many committees including trustees chairman and usher. He was known as the church handyman for many years. Paul loved helping his church. He was a former member of the Montgomery Township Board of Appeals for many years serving as chairman. A life member of the B.P.O.E. in Ashland and a member of the American Legion. After his retirement, he continued plumbing by helping relatives and friends. He enjoyed being able to help people, building small craft items, gardening, traveling, working outside, going to auctions looking for treasures including oil cans to add to his collection, and watching sports on T.V. He said many times, “Every day is a good day, but some are better than others.”

Paul is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Imhoff of Ashland; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Mark Burgess of Ashland; three grandchildren, Alex Burgess of Ashland, Zach (Jessica) Burgess of Monroe, and Mary Burgess of Columbus; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou (Voy) Harmon; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Carol) Imhoff; three sisters-in-law, Helen Earley, Pat Imhoff, and Loretha Kline; and many nieces and nephews.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Karen Imhoff on March 3, 1995; his brother, Ned and twin brother Wayne (Rena) Imhoff; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Karl and Maxine Koons, Noble and Glady’s Brinker, Bud Earley, Don and Anne Kline, Ken Kline; niece Connie McCrobie; nephew, Loren Green; nephew, Bob Miller; and great niece Taylor Green.
