Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Dean Irwin

Thomas "Tom" Dean Irwin
Thomas Dean Irwin, 69

Thomas Dean Irwin, 69, of Ashland passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 at his residence.

He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 44 years, Marti Adams Irwin; two sons, Michael (Tonya) Irwin of Mansfield and Dan Irwin of Columbus; special grandchildren Sydney and Albe; brothers Jim (Holly) Irwin and Steve (Kym) Irwin; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Ashland, Tom was born on May 5, 1948 to the late Dean and Marge Irwin. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1966 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Retail Management from Columbus State in 1968. Following graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps for two years, stationed in Cuba. He and Marti married on December 1, 1973.

Following his return from the Marines, he began working for Irwin’s Office Supply and, together with brother Jim and wife Marti, took over the business upon his father’s retirement. He served on the Board of Directors of the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Young Men’s Business club, and was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club. Additionally, he was a dedicated member of Paradise Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed washing his cars, watching Ohio State football, and spending time with loved ones.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church, 1491 State Route 603, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Layton Broome officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.
