Frances M. Fishpaw, 91, of Ashland, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center.
She was born in Ashland on February 12, 1927 the daughter of the late Michael and Alice (Konzay) Embreus, who had migrated to the United States from Croatia. She had been a resident of Ashland her entire lifetime. She graduated from Ashland High School in the class of 1946. While in high school, as the men were serving in the armed forces, Frances worked as an usherette at the newly opened Schine’s Theatre in Ashland, but eventually lost her job when World War II ended and the theatre rehired men as ushers.
She attended the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ashland V.F.W. Post 1067 Auxiliary for over 25 years. She was cub scout den mother and enjoyed bowling and dancing. She will also be remembered as a loving and caring wife and mother, and a wonderful Christian woman willing to help anyone in need.
On February 9, 1947, Frances married John P. Fishpaw. She became a stay at home wife and mother raising her three sons. Her loving husband John preceded her in death on November 10, 2010, following 63 years of marriage.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. John A. Fishpaw and his wife Dr. Kimberly Krohn of Minot, North Dakota; Gerald (Penny) Fishpaw of Franklin, TN; and Duane (Vickie) Fishpaw of Ashland; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John P. Fishpaw; an infant daughter, Patricia Fishpaw; 5 sisters, Maria Nestic, Rose Piai, Ann Werry, Catherine Stoops and Elizabeth Pacquette and three brothers, George, Michael and Tony Embreus.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in March of 2019 with the date & time to be announced. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland County Council on Aging, 240 E. Third St. Ashland, Ohio 44805.
