Andrea and Celia,

You are in my thoughts. I so loved your mother and some of my most cherished times in Ohio were going to visit her when she lived on College Ave and then at Lutheran Care Village. It meant so much to me Celia when you sent me the envelope that she had written to me just days before she died. I always loved the poems she wrote and in the letter I sent to her unfortunately after she had passed, about the wonderful one she wrote about turning 101 years old. It is going to take a while for it to sink in that she is no longer living at Lutheran Care Village.

On many visits with her we would talk about Darrell. She had a picture of him I think in a baseball uniform that was taken shortly before he died and she would recall those days and weeks before the accident. She loved talking about "her little boy." When Gay Kennelly Snell wrote to me about your Mom's passing the first thing I thought about was she went to sleep on this earth and woke up in heaven a whole person with all her physical restrictions lifted from her and she was reunited with her parents, your Dad and her son that she had not seen in almost 54 years. I can't imagine a more wonderful way to celebrate your 101st birthday than with those loved ones again.

I was also thrilled to see a condolence from Mrs. Franz. She was my 4th grade teacher and Mrs. Denbow was my 5th and 6th grade teacher. Mrs. Franz was very tall and beautiful. She reminded me of Inger Stevens. She probably does not remember me but I remember those years in elementary school at Ruggles-Troy. Your Mom always got along and liked all the teachers she encountered during her teaching years. She had a kind heart and gentle soul. She will be missed but I will always have the happy memories I made with her on those visits. I will cherish the last letter you sent me. God bless both of you in the days and weeks ahead.

Celia and Andrea---I wish I could write you a personal note. I taught with your mom and we stayed in touch through the years. The last couple years, she'd write often, sometimes very funny letters. She always mentioned you girls and how devoted she was to you. She'd send lists of various things, things she was thankful for, things she had done. She always mentioned the Lord in her life, She was so upbeat. I thank God for having known her. I actually sent her a birthday card. I received a note from Pat Denbow telling me of her passing.. I will miss her, but rejoice in knowing she is at Home with her Lord and Saviour.

May He give you comfort and peace.
Wilma Franz

Dear Andrea and Celia,
What a wonderful lady and teacher your Mom was! I think we all have special memories of her even though we may not have always been the best kids or students at times. I remember her beautiful writing and the spelling tests she gave us. She encouraged reading and it’s something I still love to do. She was a special lady.

With my deepest sympathy to you,
Cheryl McBride Smith

So sorry to hear. Mrs Riffle was without a doubt the best teacher I ever had growing up in the third grade. I stopped by to see her few days after her 100th birthday. She remembered me and my brothers and sisters that was in her class. Very special lady that I will never forget.
