Cletus J. Albers, 95 of Ashland passed away, Saturday, May 4, 2019 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.
He was born on March 26, 1924 in Ft. Loramie, Ohio to the late William H. and Theresa (nee Sherman) Albers.
Cletus graduated from Ft. Loramie High School, Class of 1942. As a member of the “Greatest Generation”, he proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII.
He married the love of his life, the former Irene J. Wenning on August 3, 1946 in North Star. Cletus retired in 1991 from Henry Valve Company where he rose to the position of Vice President in charge of manufacturing. In keeping with his true character of the “Greatest Generation”; his retirement was brief, as he chose to return to work until he was 94 to help his son’s family business BOR-IT MFG., Co., of Ashland.
Cletus loved to go fishing and he loved to fly. What he loved most, and what fulfilled his life with unending happiness and pride was the incredible loving family that he and Irene together with God, created and nurtured.
Cletus is survived by his ten children, Michael (Christine) Albers, Charlotte Schneider, William Albers, Kenneth (Detra) Albers, Steven (Ann) Albers, John (Laurie) Albers, Paula (Jeff) Peters, Cletus II (Gwen) Albers, Theresa (Nicolas) Albers Simon, and Theodore (Vicki) Albers; his 28 grandchildren; his 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette (Robert) Weaver and Mary Ann (Roger) Schmitmeyer; his brother, Dr. Robert (Viola) Albers; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, Cletus is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mrs. Irene J. Albers who passed away peacefully on January 21, 2018; his daughter-in-law, Eileen Albers; his son-in-law, George Schneider; his brother, Urban (Violet) Albers; and his sister, Rose Mary (Norman) Menker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Father Rod Kreidler officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, May 10, 2019 in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the rosary recited at the conclusion of the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward School, 433 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
