Paul B. Johnson, 72 of Ashland passed away on Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019 in LifeCare Hospice.
He was born January 25, 1947 in Providence, Rhode Island the son of the late Daniel C. and Mae (nee Anderson) Johnson.
Following his graduation from Alleghany High School, Paul proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
On September 27, 1969 he married the love of his life the former Sandra Freer. Following their marriage the couple resided in California for 18 years before moving to the Ashland area in 1987. For more than 30 years, Paul operated Johnson’s Machinery in Ashland.
Paul was a life member of the Am Vets Post #96 in Ashland and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1067, along with Eagles Arie 2178, where he was past president. He has enjoyed taking his 1956 candy apple red Chevy to many local car shows and also trap shooting in his spare time.
He is survived by one daughter, Krystal (Mark) Patton; one son, Kevin (April) Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Mindy Johnson; and six grandchildren, J.P. Shire, Kayla Shire, Austin Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Shawnda Mowry and Brandon Mowry; a sister-in-law, Linda Bates; and one brother-in-law, David W. Strange; and a family friend, Jean Smith.
In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra “Sandy” Johnson who passed away, September 26, 2014; one son, Kenneth Johnson in 2009; and his sister, Natalie Johnson this year.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Don Earlenbaugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call Monday, May 13, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
