Linda L. Mapes, 73, of Ashland, died Friday in Largo, FL, following a struggle against liver cancer.

She was born Aug. 21, 1945, in Columbus to Robert and Thais (Nobis) Savage. After graduating from Willoughby South High School, she attended Ashland
College and earned a degree in elementary education.
She taught for Head Start, the Ashland University Montessori School, Dale-Roy School and Park Street Brethren Preschool. She was a substitute teacher in the Ashland City Schools. Later she worked for Kingston of Ashland in the activities department.
Linda was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, where she was an elder, a deacon and a member of the chancel choir. She made
regular visits to church members and others confined to their homes or to nursing homes.
While a student at Ashland College, she transferred to Ohio University for one semester in 1967. There she met Terry Mapes, whom she married on Aug. 24,
1968, in Athens, OH. They settled in Ashland and had one son, Daniel (Greensburg, PA).
After retiring in 2010, she and her husband spent their winters in Largo.
In addition to her husband Terry and son Daniel (Kelly), survivors include two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jacob (Max); and a sister, Carol Woodruff (Ken), of Canal
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Church Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Mike Parker officiating. Friends may call for a meal and time of fellowship following the service at the church.
Memorial contributions in Linda’s name may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Church Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 to help support campus ministry at Ashland University.
