Helen A. Fritz, 89, of Ashland passed peacefully on Friday, August, 30, 2019 with her loving family by her side at Brethren Care Village.
She was born March 9, 1930 in Long Beach, California to Everett E. Aine of Richmond, CA, and Dorothy W. Aine of Fort Smith, AK.
Fritz attended Long Beach Polytechnical High School in Long Beach, CA through her Junior year, finishing her senior year at Lawrenceville High School in Lawrenceville, IL in 1947. Helen continued her education at the University of Illinois in 1951, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and English and as a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
Upon graduation, she worked for Baxter Laboratories as a translator and librarian for a couple of years before moving to Ohio, becoming an English teacher for Ashland High School for 27 years. Throughout her years in Ohio she became a member of the AA sorority, the Ashland Country Club and Ladies Golf Association to name a few. She also became active in the 4H as her love for horses continued to blossom and she and her late husband, Lou, started to show Arabian and Morgan horses for many years.
She loved vacationing in Florida, and after many years, her and her husband Lou, established their residence there, becoming a part of the Vasari Country Club in Bonita Springs, where she continued to pursue her passion for golf. Lou and Helen also enjoyed many years with their beloved dog, Winston, that traveled back and forth with them to their home down South. Winston was a gift from her husband and a companion she cherished dearly. She also loved spending her time playing duplicate bridge competitively with her club in Ashland.
Helen always succeeded in making a friend wherever she went and was known for her wit and spunk. Her fun loving personality was evident to all who came in contact with her. She enjoyed her life and loved her family well.
Helen spent the last years of her life living at her daughter Karen’s residence with her family, continuing to enjoy traveling, activities and outdoor adventures that kept her young at heart. She was active as a member of the Council on Aging, where she enjoyed outings and time spent with friends. Aside from her loved ones, an active lifestyle is what brought Helen the most joy.
She is survived by her children, Ed Heartstedt of Strongsville and Karen (Marty) Myers of Ashland; and stepson Peter L. Fritz of Mansfield. She is also survived by her siblings Harry Aine of Boulder City, NV and Elizabeth Cragin of Tampa Bay, FL and grandchildren, Lindsay Myers, Lacey (Jason) Thomas, Kyler Heartstedt and Chase Heartstedt.
