Kevin W. Hoffmann, 57

Kevin W. Hoffmann, 57 of Mt. Gilead, formerly of Ashland, passed away on Friday morning, October 25, 2019 in Woodside Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on December 2, 1961 in Bridgeton, New Jersey; the son of William and Phyllis (nee Rogers) Hoffmann.

Kevin was a 1980 graduate of Ashland High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army.

He was a lifelong truckdriver. Kevin was employed by RTC Transportation from 1989 to 1991 in Forest Park, Georgia. Then went on to work for Burns Motor Freight in Marlinton, West Virginia from 1991-2006, and for Alpha Natural Resources in Leivsay, West Virginia.

Kevin spent most of his adult life living in West Virginia but eventually returned home to Ashland to be close his family and friends.

He loved to travel; having been in every state except Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed metal detecting and going to car and van shows. Above all, Kevin enjoyed a good joke and could easily turn a stranger into a friend with his outgoing personality.

Kevin is survived by his mother, Mrs. Phyllis Hoffmann of Ashland; one sister, Tracy (Allen) Webb; two brothers, Ken (Mary) Hoffmann and Jay (Shannon) Hoffmann; three nieces, Alison and Alayna Webb and Sarah Hoffmann; and two nephews, Alex Webb and Jacob Hoffmann.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Hoffmann.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Norm Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Friends may call Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Kevin was one of a kind. His personality was just about as big as he was. I met kevin through a co-worker in April of 88 and we were married in January of 89. We were married for 26 years. We resided in WV where I’m from. When he had a passion for something, it ran deep. He had lots of hobbies as listed in his obituary; but he loved animals, kids and family. We never had children of our own; but I had nieces and nephews that we took under our wing. We did beach trips, camping, bike riding- they kept us moving. He would dig holes in the back yard, bury change so the kids could take out the metal detectors and dig it up. They would come over and hang with him every weekend he came home to go on some kind of adventure. We experienced alot of joys, sadness through loosing parents, grandparents but we were there for each other. There was a time in there that we did go to church and Kevin was saved and baptized. In the end things changed, but we remained friends. I have came to realize it's not the day you were born or the date you die that matters, its the dash in the middle that counts. How you live your life and hoping you make a difference in someones life while your here! And Kevin you did make a difference in all of our lives and we are better for knowing you...
