William E. “Bill” Ferguson, 69, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2019 at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center following a short illness.

Bill was born in Ashland on July 28, 1950 to Floyd W. and Dorothy Lucille (Fulton) Ferguson and has been a lifelong resident. He wanted to serve his country during the Vietnam War and left high school his junior year and joined the United States Marine Corps. Following his service to his country, Bill later finished his education and earned his GED. He also served in the Ohio National Guard for several years.
A machinist by trade, Bill also had worked for Aber’s as an over the road truck driver for a few years but returned to work as a machinist at Ohio Tool Works until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. He also was a member and Commander of Ashland Am Vets Post #96, member and Past Commander of Ashland VFW Post #1067, a member of Harry Higgins Post #88 of the American Legion, member and Past Commander of VVNW Post #9, The Marine Corps League of Wooster, a founding member of the Legion Riders Motorcycle Group, and a past member of the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.
Bill was actively involved for 20 years with the Bean Soup Dinners for veterans during the Ashland County Fair, worked with Toys for Tots, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and in his younger years he was an avid bowler and enjoyed shooting pool; but most of all he was a devoted family man.
On December 6, 1970 Bill was married to Wilma J. Smith who survives him. The couple would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this year. He is also survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Charles) Fix of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren, Jailynn Solano, Brendan Fix & Kaylee Fix; his siblings, Barbara (Bob) Bigley of Creston, OH; Eddie Ferguson (Angel) of Ashland; Peggy Scheelk of Ashland; Cheryl (Ken) Foulks of Mansfield and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Floyd W. Ferguson, his mother, Dorothy Lucille Kelsey; a daughter, Sheila Ferguson and two young sisters, Beverly Jo and Nancy Lynn Ferguson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren with Pastor Steve Keib officiating. Burial, with full military honors presented by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard, will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.
