Obituary

James Sherrod Welsh
1934-2019

James Welsh of Ashland, began his last journey on December 22nd, after passing of cancer at Hospice Life Care of Wooster.

He was born on July 20th, 1934 in Salem Ohio, the son of Mildred Cope, and James Kesselmire. He was adopted at a young age by Orville G. Welsh, after the passing of his father.

In 1948, as a young teenager he moved from Shaker Heights, to a farm in Ashland on RTE 250. He attended Ashland SR High School and graduated in 1953. At the tender age of 17, his parents signed for him to enlist in the United States Naval Reserves, and served from 1952 until 1955. He then transferred into the Army Security Agency-Military Police Company, earning the rank of Corporal-during the Korean War. After being released in 1958, and discharged from the active reserves in 1961, he owned and operated several Sohio and Marathon service stations. Years later he went to work for Richmond MFG, and Liqui-Box, both of Ashland. He enjoyed the comforts of home, however his great passion was boating. He spent many beautiful summers in Port Clinton on his 27ft Bayliner, relaxing on the waters of Lake Erie.

He is survived by his wife Janice Welsh, of 26 years. Daughter, Lou Ann Welsh Alery, Son-in-law, Mike Alery, Granddaughter, Sondra Alery, Grandson, Matthew Alery. His sister Sonia Warriner, Niece, Mary Warriner and Nephew, James Warriner. Stepsons, Jeff, Joe, John, and Justin Hendershot and Stepdaughter, Jennifer Hendershot Kinn. He has 18 Step Grandchildren and 5 Great Step Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by Daughter, Kimberly Sue Welsh, and Son, Todd Sherrod Welsh.

A private family gathering at the Ashland Cemetery will take place on December 26th. We welcome friends to join us at Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home - 313 Center Street, Ashland on December 26th from 2:00p-4:00p to honor and celebrate Jim's life.
