Everett C. Shonkwiler, 88 of Ashland passed away, January 8, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on November 24, 1931 in Ashland, the son of the late C. E. and Cleo (nee Warnes) Shonkwiler.
Following his high school graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Ashland University in 1959 and married the love of his life two days later, the former Mary Marie “Mimi” Price.
Everett worked for many years at Frank Seringer & Chaney as an accountant and also at Ashland University following his retirement. In his retirement years, he was a registered tax return preparer. He enjoyed sharing God’s word with all his client and gave many Bibles away over the years.
He was very active with the Ashland Evening Lion’s as a member and served for many years in district offices, and received numerous awards, too many to list.
Everett was a life-long member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, taught Sunday School, was involved with the youth, and served on church council for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Mary Marie “Mimi” Shonkwiler of Ashland; one son, Todd (Glenda) Shonkwiler; a granddaughter, Maddie Mae Shonkwiler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Everett is preceded in death; two brothers, Dale and Paul Shonkwiler; and one sister, Thelma Hyatt.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Ignatius David and Reverend Jeff Coggins officiating. Following the service a meal and time of fellowship will be held in the Legacy Room of the funeral home. Interment will follow lunch in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, the Ashland Evening Lion’s will conduct services at the conclusion of the visitation.
