Forrest “Bill” Shafer, 78
Forrest “Bill” Shafer, 78 of Ashland passed away, Friday, January 24, 2020 in OhioHealth MedCentral Hospital.
He was born on July 25, 1941 in Caldwell, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond W. and Wadna (nee Nalley) Shafer.
Bill graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1960.
He married the former, Judith Anderson on June 16, 1962.
He retired after more than 40 years. Bill started working at the age of eleven at Gerwig’s market picking strawberries. It was from his training their he learned how to be a meat cutter. He was employed for 20 years at the T&A Saveway, 4 years as a meat cutter and 16 years as a store manager. Bill completed his career working at Buehler’s at the Medina Store and River Styx for 10 years. Throughout the years, he also was employed at Boliantz and Turk Brothers meat company.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to vegetable garden and supporting Ashland University Women’s Basketball team.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Shafer of Ashland; one daughter, Jill (Steven) Laskey of Mansfield; two sons, Todd W. Shafer of Shiloh and Sean C. Shafer of Ashland; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Phillip (Ruth) Shafer and Robert “Bob” (Joyce) Shafer.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland Ohio 44805 with Father Rod Kreidler officiating. Interment will follow in the Imhoff Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward School, 433 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
