Leonard Wayne Rex of Ashland went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2020, at the age of 79.
Leonard Wayne Rex Jr. was born to Leonard and Eva (Aldrich) Rex in Olean, New York. After graduating from Little Valley High School in 1959, he enlisted into the United States Navy, spending three years aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk Aircraft Carrier. He served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic (Hydraulic) Petty Officer 2nd Class in Fighter Squadron 114 during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. His favorite memory was when the ship was visited by John F. Kennedy, who loved the crew enough to extend his stay. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for McDonnell Douglas, the American aerospace manufacturing corporation in San Diego. He advanced his career into oil production with Quaker State Oil Company, Beldon Blake, and R.A. Miller.
His career in oil led him to Red Haw, Ohio, where he found the love of his life. On December 10, 1977, he married Rebecca Jane McFadden in Jellico, Tennessee. Together they built a home to raise their family and welcome anyone in need of a warm meal or safe place. He was an active father, coaching soccer, teaching Sunday School, and supporting his children in their endeavors.
Len was an avid woodworker, creating beautiful pieces for his family. He was a notorious tease, always joking with family members and friends, never meeting a stranger. He thrived on working outside, doing yard work, mowing, and gardening to provide for his family. Len and Rebecca attended Grace Brethren Church and were a part of the Wings Adult Bible Fellowship. Len had a reputation as a dedicated prayer warrior for both his family and his friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, father Leonard, and his sister Linda (Jim) Martorell. He is survived by mother, Eva Ellis, wife, Rebecca, his children Laurie (Eric) Cellar, Lisa (Michael) Walter, Leisa (Tom) Foley, Jeremy (Jessica) Hockenberry, Scott Rex, and Seth (Tara) Rex. His grandchildren Morgan and Bailey Walter, McKenzie (Aaron) Davis, Matthew (Casey) Cellar, Roman Rex, Sophia Palmer, Journee Hockenberry, Aidyn, Hudson, Sullivan, and Harrison Rex, and Briah Peterson. His three great-grandchildren Silas Maine, Elijah Childs, Luca Childs, and numerous nieces and nephews.
