William Merwin “Bill” Roper 66, of Eagle River, Alaska, and formerly of Ashland, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska following a brief illness.

Bill was born in Ashland on May 20, 1953 the son of James D. and Rita Mae (Farver) Roper. He was a 1971 graduate of Mapleton High School. Following high school Bill worked at Buckeye Heating & Cooling in Ashland before becoming a self-employed construction contractor in the Ashland area.
In 1991 Bill moved to Alaska and operated his own construction company in the Anchorage area. This fit him well as he enjoyed hunting and fishing as his past time.
He is survived by his mother, Rita Mae Roper of Ashland; brother Steven (Sheila) Roper of Ashland; Uncle Bill (Linda) Farver of Ashland, Aunt Rose Marie Imhoff of Mifflin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father James D. Roper; Aunt Janet, Uncle Sam, Michael & John Grabill and Uncle David Imhoff and daughter Jane (Imhoff) Thompson.
Private family graveside services will be held Monday, April 20, 2020 at the Ashland Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin McClain officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center St., Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1021 Dauch Dr., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
A memorial service for Mr. Roper will be announced at a later date.
