Wesley A. “Wes” Canfield, 82 of Nankin passed away at his home on June 20, 2020, free from heart pain and dementia.
He was born to Wallace A. and Beulah (nee Westerfeld) Canfield on January 23, 1938 in Ashland, Ohio.
Wes lived in Ashland County, Nankin area all of his life. He graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1956. Wes built and worked 45 years at Canfield Trucking & Excavating. He was an Orange Township Trustee sixteen years and drove school bus for Mapleton Schools.
Wes married the former Shirley Schlechty on August 30, 1958.
Wes always enjoyed motor bikes and motorcycles. He raced them when was young, then toured all over the U.S. and into Canada with his wife, Shirley. They bought a mobile home in Texas in 1999 and spent 18 winters there. It was in Texas, he learned to play golf and enjoyed that very much. He collected ball caps everywhere he went and was never without one on is head. He had hundreds.
Wes was a devoted member of Polk Church of Christ where he was a deacon and mowed the church yard.
Wes is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Canfield of Nankin; a proud father of his three children, Bill (Dawn) Canfield of Ashland, Beth Jones of Nankin, and Brian (Marjie) Canfield of Ashland County; seven grandchildren, April O’Brien, Jesse (Sarah) Parks, Michael (Elaine) Raver, Adam Raver, Wesley Canfield, Jenna (Jared) Greenawalt, and Garrett (Kenzie) Canfield; four step grandchildren, Heather Heffelfinger, Adam Heffelfinger, Michael Jones, and Jennifer Wahl; 13 great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris (David) Campbell and Peggy (Bill) Kerr; and one brother, Denny (Sue) Canfield of Nankin area.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Polk Church of Christ, 204 East Congress Street, Polk, Ohio 44866 with Reverend Ed Graves officiating. Interment will be in the Nankin Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, June 23, 2020 in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
