Obituary

Joyce Louise Martin, 96

Joyce Louise Martin, 96 of Ashland, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 29, 2020 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland, Ohio. She was born March 13, 1924 to Lawrence Jenkins and Norma Hood Jenkins White in Jackson, Ohio. She graduated from Jackson High School, class of 1942. That same year, she married Harry Martin, the love of her life and they were married for 56 years until his death in 1997.

Joyce lived most of her life in Jackson, Ohio and will be remembered as an employee of Radio Station WLMJ. She also worked at The Jackson Publishing Company, where she was the author of The Town Crier and Round the Town. Harry and Joyce owned the Goodyear Tire & Retread store on Main Street in the 60’s and 70’s. In 1986, they retired to Tempe, Arizona where Joyce remained until 2015. She then moved to Belmont Tower where she was near her family. She enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards and going on cruises. She especially loved Arizona.

Her survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Kessler of Chillicothe, Ohio, granddaughter, Amy (Tom) Snodgrass Jr, and her pride and joy, Tyler J. Snodgrass, great grandson all of Ashland, Ohio. Also of Ashland is a dear friend, Joe Kessler. She leaves a loving niece, Nancy Clemmons of London, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Jane White of Chillicothe, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Martin, a sister, Carolyn Jenkins Colby and a brother, Art White along with her parents.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Tower and Hospice of North Central Ohio.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated and the interment of ashes will be at Fairmount Cemetery, at a later date.

Amy, I remember when we worked together that you traveled to Arizona to see your grandmother. You were excited to see her and now I know why. It seems she was a person full of life and fun to be around. Sorry for your loss. (I still have the Arizona magnet on my refrigerator that you brought back for me.) : )
May God give you comfort. Shirley Bowers

Dear Amy, Tom, Tyler and Joe,
Ed and I send you our sincere condolences on the passing of Joyce. I, Pat, so enjoyed meeting her at Belmont Tower. She was so positive and sweet every time I spoke with her. She will be sorely missed as a bright light in your lives. It is so good you had her living here for a time so you could see her often. She seemed truly happy to be here. May she rest in the eternal kingdom of heaven reunited with her dear husband and your grandfather.
Love and peace, Pat and Ed Helal

May you rest in peace, Joyce, and enjoy being in GOD's presence along with Harry and the rest of your family. I always enjoyed seeing your face light up when Tyler was around.
