John R. “Bob” Hall, 87 of Ashland passed away late Thursday evening, August 27, 2020 on to his Lord and Savior.
He was born in Ashland on July 24, 1933 the son of the late Lester and Elizabeth (nee Hoag) Hall.
John was a life-long native of Ashland County.
He married the former Dianna Gerwig at Rev. C.L. Kern’s home on October 1, 1966. Together they had two children, Stephen (Marnie) Hall of Oceanside, California and Amy (Scott) Burns of rural Ashland, their children are Maya and Levi Hall, and Micah Burns.
In addition to his parents John is preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie.
John graduated from Ashland High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked some years with the Standard Oil Company and then the Ashland Fire Department in 1960. He graduated from Open Bible College in 1991 and was ordained. He transferred his ordination to the Evangelical Free Church and served many years as an Adult Teacher.
He retired as Assistant Fire Chief after more than 27 years of service. He continued as chaplain for the department for many years following his retirement. Throughout his careers, he was always seeking to be a friend along the way whatever job he held.
An interment service will be held, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ashland Cemetery with Pastor Ron Graves officiating at the Fireman’s Memorial just past the front gates. The Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct military honors. The service will be available via Facebook Live from the funeral homes page. In the interest of those attending, you are welcome to bring your own comfortable chair for the service. The family will take time to visit with guest following the ceremony.
