Gary M. Ewald, 69 of Ashland passed away early Monday morning, October 5, 2020.
He was born on December 4, 1950 in Lima, Ohio, the son of the late Eugene William and Marylee Ruth (nee Hole) Ewald.
Gary graduated from Wapakoneta St. Joseph Class of 1969. He received his undergraduate degree from Xavier University in 1973, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry in 1977.
In 1977 Gary and Janet met while working together in a Dental Clinic in Toledo, Ohio, and they just celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on September 22.
For more than 43 years, Gary had been a family dentist. Gary was a devoted member of St. Edward Catholic Church where he was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life, Gary was an avid sports enthusiast, especially for his alma mater, Xavier University. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (nee Schlageter) Ewald of Ashland; one son, Dan (Kelly) Ewald of Hilliard, Ohio; one daughter, Erin (Korey) Kaufman of Ashland; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan, Colin, Preston, Jacob, and Amelia; and one brother, Joseph (Catherine) Ewald of Powell, Ohio.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents and brother James Ewald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Rod Kreidler presiding. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, October 9, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. A rosary service will be conducted at the conclusion of the visitation by the Knights of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church, in care of St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Knights of Columbus, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland Ohio 44805.
