Steve Mitchell, 68, passed peacefully October 12, 2020, with family by his side in Ashland, Ohio. He loved teaching, high school and college basketball, OSU football, coaching, chatting with old friends, and music.

Steve was born March 13, 1952, in Wichita, KS to Oren and Lois Cline Mitchell. He lived in central and northern California for many years. He graduated from Leigh High School in 1970 where he played basketball and ran track, and graduated college from San Jose State University in 1976.
He went on to teach elementary school in Morgan Hill, California. Steve later worked for Atari and as a software developer for Mervyn’s department store, Gap, and VISA.
Steve and his family moved to Ashland in 2008. After retiring from VISA he worked many years as a substitute teacher for area schools and particularly enjoyed teaching at Ashland High School.
Steve married the love of his life Nancy Price on October 23, 1993 in Atherton, CA, who survives him, along with their two children Spencer Mitchell and Marguerite Mitchell.
Steve is also survived by his daughter and her husband, Cassandra and Jason Hope in San Francisco, CA and by their daughter, Steve’s only grandchild and apple of his eye Clover Hope.
He is also survived by his brother Ron Mitchell of Elk Grove,CA, his niece and her husband Camdin and Matthew Jefferson of San Diego, CA and their daughter Harlow.
Along with many dear extended family members and in-laws whom he loved.
Steve was preceded in death by both his parents and his younger sister Kathleen, whom he has always held in his heart.
A private graveside service will be held at Ashland Cemetery on Saturday October 17, 2020 with Father Rod Kreidler, presiding.
