Carolyn Countryman Hoppes 93, of Olmstead Township, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Holy Family Home Health Care & Hospice in Parma, Ohio following a short illness.

On November 8, 1926 Carolyn was born in Ashland, Ohio to the late Guy Alvertis and Helen (Wharton) Countryman. She was a graduate of Ashland High School class of 1944, Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1948 and the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1984.
Carolyn owned and operated her art studio “The Art Room” in Little Italy, near Cleveland, Ohio for 22 years.
She was a faithful member of the Independence Presbyterian Church where she was a Deaconess, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Knit-Wits, knitting hats, scarfs and mittens for individuals in need.
Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting, oil painting, cooking and was an avid reader.
On September 4, 1948 Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Carl Edward Hoppes and the couple just celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year.
She is survived by her husband, four children, Betsy Finley of Howard, Ohio; Phil (Lynn) Hoppes of Phoenix, AZ; David Andrew Hoppes of West Lafayette, IN. and Christopher (Cindy) Hoppes of Berea, Ohio; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Jeanne Barnhill.
A private family committal service will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Ashland Cemetery with Dr. JoAnn Ford-Watson officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Home, 6707 State Road, Parma, Ohio 44134.
