Cynthia “Cindy” Gerwig, 74 of Ashland passed away Saturday morning, October 24, 2020 with her loving family by her side.
She was born on September 8, 1946 in Ashland, the daughter of the late Benjamin Leon and Lucy Viola (nee Kimball) Hamilton.
Cindy graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1964. She married the love of her life, Dennis Gerwig on March 26, 1966.
Along with her husband Dennis, owned and operated his family’s business, Gerwig’s White Barn. Cindy was a devoted wife and mother who truly was a wonderful homemaker. The love of her family and their lives were the most important thing in her life.
She enjoyed reading in her spare time. Cindy became a pioneer in her own right, advocating for women like her who had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She would often speak out to women who came into the grocery store about her fight and always lent her caring ear to listen to theirs.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dennis Gerwig of Ashland; three daughters, Toni (Jeff) Birch of Ashland, Kim (Keith) Barr of Jeromesville, and Denise (Bobby) Elliott of Ashland; one son, Denny (Jenna) Gerwig of Ashland; six grandchildren, Malori (Joe) Cefoli of Lewis Center, Megan (Will) McMahan of West Salem, Josh Barr of Jeromesville, Christian Elliott of Ashland, and Kinsley and Karsyn Gerwig both of Ashland; two great grandchildren, Eliana Cefoli and Hayden McMahan; and one sister, Kay Cutting of Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to her parents, Cindy is preceded in death by seven sisters; and two brothers.
In remembrance of Cindy, Gerwig’s White Barn will be closed on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 and will resume normal business hours on Thursday. The family would like to thank their loyal patrons for their thoughts and prayers on the loss of Cindy.
