Richard O. “Mack” McDonald, age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2020, at Brethren Care Village in Ashland.
He was born 1934, in Ashland, to Carl and Lillie (Gerwig) McDonald. He was a 1952 graduate of Ashland High School. He worked at General Motors in Ontario until his 30-year retirement. When not working at General Motors, he owned a large vegetable farm in Nankin providing corn, strawberries, pumpkins, and other vegetables to local grocery stores for over 50 years. Farming to Richard was a way he could connect with his family as well as his community. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church and sang in the choir. He bowled in the local bowling leagues and traveled out west to pheasant hunt with “the guys”. He loved watching the "Cleveland Indians” and was a devoted baseball fan throughout his life, always hoping the Indians would win the “Series”! Richard truly lived life through the simple pleasures, laughing with friends, family dinners, and having coffee at the Lyn-Way.
Richard’s family would like to thank the Health Care Center team at Brethren Care for their excellent attention and care while Richard was a resident.
Richard is survived by his sister, Linda Miller (McDonald); as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Carl McDonald Jr.
