David E. Grindle, 84 of Ashland passed away on Wednesday morning, November 25, 2020, in Kingston of Ashland.
He was born on July 18, 1936, in Ashland, the son of the late Howard E. and Margaret (nee Richards) Grindle.
A lifelong resident of Ashland, David graduated from Ashland High School in 1954. He furthered his education at The Ohio State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering in 1959.
David married his high school sweetheart, the former, Sandra Withers on September 15, 1957.
He, along with Lowell Bender, founded Grindle & Bender, an architecture, engineering, and surveying firm in Ashland, in 1975.
David was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was involved in many boards and committees throughout the years and was a devoted member of the Searchers class.
Throughout his life, David was an avid sports fan, especially of his alma maters, both Ashland High School and The Ohio State University. David especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities over the years. He and Sandy had a special fondness for their card club.
David was humorous and friendly. He genuinely tried to treat people well. He loved his family, his friends, and he loved being an Ashlander.
David is survived by one daughter, Susan (Joel) Icenhour of Ashland; one son, Bill Grindle of Columbus; five grandchildren, Daniel (Abbey) Icenhour of Brunswick, Aaron Icenhour of Columbus, Megan Icenhour of Ashland, Tessa (David) Grindle-deGraaf of Columbus and Benjamin Grindle-deGraaf of Columbus; and one great-granddaughter, Breonna Icenhour.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sandy, and one brother, John Edson Grindle.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kingston of Ashland and Kindred Hospice for their kind care and support of he and Sandy.
A private family funeral service will take place. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery.
