Dennis O. Gerwig, 74 of Ashland passed away Wednesday evening, January 6, 2021 in the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. He was born on September 10, 1946 the son of the late Ocal Ord and Mary Adelle (nee Williams) Gerwig.
Dennis graduated from Mapleton High School, class of 1964. He married the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Gerwig on March 26, 1966. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2020. Dennis and his wife Cindy were partners in business, just as in life, and owned and operated the family business Gerwig’s White Barn. They worked tirelessly to support their employees as well as their customers. His children have said “Dad could do anything.” They expressed fond memories of their dad playing softball on the Gerwig’s White Barn team, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, and especially going with him to watch the Cleveland Browns.
Dennis is survived by three daughters, Toni (Jeff) Birch of Ashland, Kim (Keith) Barr of Jeromesville, and Denise (Bobby) Elliott of Ashland; one son, Denny (Jenna) Gerwig of Ashland; six grandchildren, Malori (Joe) Cefoli of Lewis Center, Megan (Will) McMahan of West Salem, Josh Barr of Jeromesville, Christian Elliott of Ashland, and Kinsley and Karsyn Gerwig both of Ashland; two great grandchildren, Eliana Cefoli and Hayden McMahan; two brothers, Bill (Shirley) Gerwig and David (Vicky) Gerwig both of Ashland, a sister Marlene Dewitt of Leesburg Fl, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by two sisters Violet Mortenson and Gloria Heffelfinger.
In remembrance of Dennis, Gerwig's White Barn will be closed on Wednesday January 13, 2021, and will resume normal business hours on Thursday January 14, 2021.
The family would like to thank their loyal patrons for their thoughts and prayers on the loss of Dennis.
