Sally Rue Harris, 84 of Ashland passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 in her home.
She was born on April 26, 1936 in Ravenna, Ohio. Sally was the daughter of Rolla and Lola (nee Childs) Bantz.
Following her high school graduation, she earned her nursing degree from Providence Hospital School of Nursing. She married the love of her life, Howard Leroy Harris on August 5, 1960.
Sally retired after more than 30 years from Dr.’s Henry and Vera Chalfant’s medical practice. She also was employed at both Brethren Care Village and Samaritan Hospital.
She was a devoted member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, where she was church organists and a deaconess. Sally was also a member of Ashland’s Registered Nurse Association.
Sally is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Eric) Hylton of Shipman, Virginia and Janet Bright of Ashland; one son, Jeff (Becky) Harris of Ashland; three grandsons, Michael (Jessica) Harris, Brandon (Alyssa Leibolt) Harris, Ryan (Bethany) Steward; two granddaughters, Laura (Les) Campbell and Jennifer Lackey; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Joanne (Dick) Corn of Ashland; and one brother, Larry (Roma) Bantz of Paradise Hill and a sister-in-law, Rose Bantz of Savannah, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Howard Harris who passed away on October 30, 2019; two brothers, Don and Ted Bantz; two sisters, Betty Hickman and Pat Stanford; two infant twin brothers; and one granddaughter, Amy Hylton.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Steve Keib officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
The service will be livestreamed from the funeral home’s Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice.
