Obituary

Beulah Barr Miller

Beulah Imogene Barr Miller, 95, of Ashland, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, January 30, 2021.

She was born February 5, 1925 in Ashland. She was the oldest daughter of Raymond Ellsworth Barr and Vera Ivadore Knapp Barr.

Beulah graduated from Ashland High School in 1943. She loved basketball and starred on the AHS Army-Navy girls basketball team during her high school years.

During World War II she worked in Mansfield, sewing life jackets for the military. She also wrote letters daily to her future husband who was in the army overseas.

Beulah was a lifelong active member of Christ United Methodist Church. She served as Children’s Sunday School Director and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Discovery Book and Discussion Group at the church. She had many loyal friends in the Helping Hands Circle at Christ United Methodist Church. She was also active in the Gloriosa Garden Club for many years.

Beulah was always helpful to her husband in the family business at Home Hardware. She helped her husband with office work and serving the public and was the founder of Mill Creek Gift Shoppe at the hardware store. In 2017, she was inducted along with her husband into the Ashland High School Distinguished Alumnus Award Class of 2017. Beulah loved to read and derived much pleasure from her time with books.

She is survived by her husband, Gaylord Everett Miller, whom she married September 9, 1945. They celebrated 75 years of marriage in 2020. Gaylord and Beulah had 3 children together. Becky (David) Myers, Jane (Michael) Ringler and G. Mark (Suzann) Miller.

They have 6 grandchildren. April (Chris) Byrne, Matt (Becky) Myers, Aimee Toth, Amanda (Aaron) Wolfe, G. Brian (Meredith) Miller, Morgan Miller and 19 great-grandchildren. Beulah is survived by daughter-in-law Suzann Miller, sister, Barbara Petit, brother, Dick (Delores) Barr and sisters-in-law Patsy Barr and LaDonna Barr, cousins Betty Laird Perry and Ken Laird as well as many nieces and nephews.
